First aid supplies
First aid is a series of simple, life-saving medical techniques that a non-doctor can be trained to perform in medical emergency situations, before the intervention of emergency medical technicians or doctors. It is best to obtain training in first aid before a medical emergency occurs. First aid provides limited care for an illness or injury to a sick or injured patient until definitive medical treatment can be accessed, or until the illness or injury is dealt with (as not all illnesses or injuries will require a higher level of treatment). It generally consists of series of simple, sometimes life saving, medical techniques, that an individual, either with or without formal medical training, can be trained to perform with minimal equipment. Supplies useful in giving first aid are often kept together in a first aid kit. Most first-aid kits contain bandages for controlling bleeding, personal protective equipment such as gloves and a breathing barrier for performing rescue breathing and CPR, and sometimes instructions on how to perform first aid. First aid supplies may include sterile eye pads, sterile gauze pads, sterile non-adherent pads, gauze roller bandages, elastic bandages, triangular bandages, straight adhesive bandages, butterfly (knuckle) bandages, adhesive tape, trauma shears, tweezers, irrigation syringe, space blanket, alcohol rub (hand sanitizer) or antiseptic hand wipes, thermometer, antiseptics, anti-itch ointment, painkillers, fever reducers, antihistamines, and etc.
