Dumbbell
A dumbbell set is a pair of weights, one dumbbell in each hand, with which various exercises are performed such as curls, overhead press, supine press, and just about any motion holding the weight and moving the arms. Hand-held weights such as barbells and dumbbells have been used for many years by exercisers engaging in weightlifting. Some hand-held weight systems include a bar configured to removably receive a variety of different weights which slide onto the bar. Other weight systems include a handle and disks integrityrally attached on opposing sides of the handle. Weight lifting using free-weights is widely enjoyable as a form of exercise and strength conditioning. Barbells and dumbbells are used in different workout routines to exercise and strengthen various muscle groups, such as biceps, triceps, pectorals, etc., depending upon the manner in which the free-weights are lifted and for the body position of the user. Weight training uses a wide variety of equipment and devices to provide resistance. While machines in various configurations have become popular, barbells and dumbbells remain essential equipment. Dumbbells are especially popular due to the adaptability with which they can be used for a variety of exercises. There are two types of dumbbells: fixed and adjustable. Fixed dumbbells are typically one solid piece of metal with a handle in the center. Fixed dumbbells present a problem for storage in limited space, being that usually two of each weight increment takes up a significant amount of room. Each set must also be purchased separately, making an entire set rather expensive. A set of fixed dumbbells is also not very portable, specifically moving the entire set is very inconvenient. There are a variety of adjustable dumbbells designs, ranging from simple to very elaborate. Each of the existing designs has significant drawbacks. They stricken with one or more of the following problems: they take too much time to change weight, are not useable by someone with large hands, are unwieldy, are difficult to change weights, or pose a safety hazard. In using dumbbells, the dumbbells are typically stored in a rack or on the floor. The user must lift the dumbbells into the starting exercise position for chest or shoulder muscle exercises. These starting exercise position for various muscle groups is well off the ground.
