Red clover
Red clover (Trifolium pratense) is essentially the flower, the flower being beneficial in cleansing the digestive system when the snuff is swallowed. Red clover is harvested by cutting the plant a few inches from the top and drying the cuttings under ambient conditions. The dried material is then sifted by a gravitational separator for reseparating the stems and florets, the florets separated are ground to a fine power. Red clover extract contains plant estrogens called coumestrol and one of its medical actions is to stimulate the ovaries and is used specifically for treatment of ovarian cysts. It is alkalinizing, restoring healthy body function. Used to relieve hot flashes. Vascular reactivity may be improved by supplementation with isoflavones isolated from Red Clover. Isoflavones are fairly widely distributed within the plant kingdom although they are found predominantly in members of the Leguminosae family. The estrogenic isoflavones (genistein, biochanin, formonomentin, daidzein, glycitein) follow this general rule in being largely restricted to the genus Leguminosae. Isoflavones from red clover improve systemic arterial compliance.
