Omega-9 fatty acids

Essential fatty acids or EFAs may refer to any fatty acid that may be utilized by the body, and chemical chains of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms that are part of a fat (lipid), are a major component of triglycerides, which may be classified as either saturated, polyunsaturated, or monounsaturated, and may be found in nature or produced synthetically. Omega-9 group fatty acids are unsaturated essential fatty acids, where the ninth carbon atom starting from the CH3 group is unsaturated. An omega-9 group fatty acid is e.g. the eicosatrienoic acid. Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are important for all humans in general. Failure to ingest the appropriate amount of essential fats daily may result in improper digestion, which in turn may cause inadequate absorption of other nutritional factors, including vitamins and minerals. Omega-9 highly unsaturated fatty acids, such as 5,8,11-eicosatrienoic acid (referred to as mead acid) and 8,11-eicosadienoic acid, are known to exist as one of the constituent fatty acids of animal tissue that has become deficient in essential fatty acids.
